Fatal Fusion is a Norwegian progressive rock band formed in 2008 by musicians from Drammen, Follo, and the Hurum area. The group originated from the remnants of several rock and blues cover bands dating back to the 1980s. Keyboardist Erlend and bassist Lasse had previously played together in a pop-rock band called No Name during the 1980s and early 1990s. After that group disbanded, they were joined by Erlend’s younger brother, drummer Audun, in 1997 to form Moonstone, a rock covers band that also began experimenting with original material. Moonstone dissolved in 1999 due to difficulties finding a suitable vocalist. The trio reunited in 2002 to form another covers group, Chrystal Blues, which focused primarily on blues. That project ended in 2007 as the members sought to move beyond covers and create more complex, self-written music. Fatal Fusion was founded soon after, with vocalist Knut and guitarist Stig joining the existing trio. Knut had previously sung and played acoustic guitar in several rock and blues cover bands, while Stig had been active in a rock group called The Rumbling Tubes during the 1990s and later joined the progressive metal band Agate around 2005, remaining a member of that group. Fatal Fusion describes itself as a classic rock and progressive rock band, drawing influences from blues, jazz, Latin music, neo-prog, psychedelia, hard rock, funk, and classical music.
