Fat Beat Sound System has evolved slowly in the same unconstrained manner as their music flows with the steady bass. The band started improvising about ten years ago when one of the founding members of Fat Beat, DJ Bunuel, invited some of his fellow musicians to enjoy playing music with no definitive drive or compulsion to gain success immediately. The idea of Fat Beat Sound System is to provide a vacation from the busy worldly matters both for the members of the band and for the listeners of their music. Today Fat Beat Sound System features famous long time musicians DJ Bunuel, Hepa Halme, Jarmo Saari, Jukkis Kiviniemi, Arttu Tolonen and Abdissa Assefa, who are known from groups such as Giant Robot, Nuspirit Helsinki and Soul Tattoo. All musicians bring their own influences into the band and most of the tunes have almost composed themselves, coming into existence by coincidence and born from the heart and soul of these skilled musicians. That is also the reason why the music of Fat Beat escapes genre definitions. It can be described as a blend of Jamaican influenced dubstyle worlbeat with heavy influences from electronic groove and echoing the sounds of nu-jazz and even hiphop.
