Artist
Farhod Qori Halimov is a maqam singer and tanbur lute player from Uzbekistan. He was born in 1963 in Samarqand to Tajik parents. Afflicted with partial blindness at birth, this later led to being totally blind. It was probably this handicap which propelled him into music, for his family was not a musical one. From the age of 19 to 23 he studied the qijak viol at the Sadriddin Ayni Pedagogical Institute in Samarqand and became a member of the Guldasta Instrumental Ensemble conducted by Ravshan Hamroqulov. On completing his studies he formed his own traditional ensemble, which he still conducts today.
