Drawing Room Records Description: Family Curse is made up of members of some great New York bands of late: punkers Golden Error, shredding post-punk duo Ribbons, and hard chargers Blood City. Sorry State Records Distro Discription: "Debut single from this killer NYC post-punk band. I'm digging this one HARD with its big production, extremely obvious nods to the Fall, and totally killer production. Seriously, these tracks seem like they could have come right from This Nation's Saving Grace-era Fall, which rules harder than I can possibly explain. This has more than enough punk in it to appeal to the die-hards, but the songwriting is so relentlessly catchy that I could see this band getting Men-type levels of big. A fucking scorcher, and drop dead gorgeous packaging to boot. Highly recommended. Drawing Room Records" Maximumrocknroll review: Family Curse review in the new MRR: "Wow. Thick, meaty post-punk with snaking basslines, almost punk-funk guitars, and barked vocals. Shards of Yummy Fur or The Birthday Party make their way through the high-volume attack. Instead of the usual post-punk lo-fi route, the production here is over the top: imagine The Fall covered by Helmet, and you might get close to the idea. The sleeve notes that the record was mixed by Alex Newport (Fudge Tunnel, and producer of countless "loud" records), which might explain it. It takes a second to get used to, but I dig it, especially on the track "Julia Armant." User-contributed text is available under
