Fabrizio Dentice

Fabrizio Dentice (also Fabricio, Fabritio) (Naples ca. 1539 – Naples ca. 1581) was an Italian composer and virtuoso lute and viol player. Fabrizio was the son of Luigi Dentice (ca. 1510–1566) who served the powerful Sanseverino family and had a great reputation as a singer and lutenist. Fabrizio was also uncle to the harpsichordist Scipione Dentice (1560-1635). Born in Naples, he appeared as an acclaimed virtuoso in Rome and the court of Parma. He published Lamentationi a cinque voci. Other compositions (pieces for lute, madrigals, motets and faux-bourdons) appeared in contemporary anthologies. Fabrizio's nephew Scipione (1560-1635) was a celebrated clavier player and composer of seven books of madrigals and one book of motets. Luigi (died before 1601), possibly Scipione's brother, is known for his Duo Dialoghi della musica, which contains much interesting information about musicians of the time.
