Förtvivlan is a depressive black metal band from the Netherlands, formed in 2007 under the name of Extermination. After releasing the demo ''On Dying Grounds...'' in 2009, the band decided to change its name to Förtvivlan in 2010. Under the name of Förtvivlan, a split with Dutch band Mist and a second demo were released in the same year. After, Misaer (initially known as M.) removed the other members from the line-up and continued as a solo-artist, adding more depressive rock elements and seeking influences from bands such as Lifelover. In 2011, two EP's (''Förtvivlan'' and ''Austere Labyrinth'') were released. Förtvivlan also contributed to the Zwaert Compilation with the track ''Jag Älskar Dig'' (Swedish for ''I Love You'') in the same year.
