Ewan MacPherson (born in Liverpool) is a British folk musician based in Scotland. As well as work under his own name, and for being known as a member of bands such as Salt House and Shooglenifty, he records as Hushman. Although born in Liverpool, MacPherson was brought up in North Wales and it was there that he began by playing in heavy metal bands. He moved back to Liverpool in 1996, to be one of the first ever students at Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. Accepted on the strength of his singing and song-writing talents, MacPherson worked on many aspects of his music, graduating with a BA (hons) in 1998. After moving for a time to Oxford, where he became involved in the English folk scene and a short-lived band with John Spiers (now of Bellowhead), MacPherson went to Edinburgh to seek out the musicians who were inspiring him with their innovative approach to traditional music and crossover. He spent a lot of time playing on the local folk scene, learning from the wealth of talent in the town and working on his mandolin, banjo and guitar playing. Since then MacPherson has toured in Canada, America and throughout Europe, he's worked on many different levels with a host of roots artists from Scotland and beyond, including: Malinky, The Battlefield Band, Fribo, Croft no 5, Fine Friday, Emily Smith, Seamus Egan, Alasdair White, Ranarim, Burach, Daimh, Maeve Mackinnon, Claire Mann and Lori Watson. He released his debut album "Norther" in 2008. By th
