Ewa Podleś (last name pronounced PODE-lesh) (born 26 April 1952) is a Polish contralto who is a prominent opera singer, perhaps best known for her Handel and Rossini roles. She has a wide vocal range (up to soprano high C) and great vocal agility. Podlés was born in Warsaw. After studying at the Warsaw Academy of Music under Madame Bolechowska, she made her stage debut as Dorabella in Mozart's Così fan tutte in 1975. In 1984, she made her Met debut in 1984 singing the title role in Handel's Rinaldo and since then has gone on to performing regularly at all the major opera houses in Europe and America.
