Artist
Based in Toronto, Canada and founded in 1983, the Evergreen Club Contemporary Gamelan is Canada's oldest gamelan. Its ensemble consists of eight musicians- Richard Sacks, Paul Houle, Andrew Timar, Mark Duggan, Blair Mackay, Bill Parsons, Ryan Scott, Graham Hargrove, Maryem Tollar, Suba Sankaran, and Jennifer Moore. Together, they perform both contemporary and traditional Indonesian pieces. The contemporary works written for Evergreen Club take advantage of both gamelan and gamelan-plus- incorporating guest soloists, guest ensembles, solo and ensemble dance, or auxiliary media. The gamelan has toured Canada, the United States, Western Europe, Japan and Indonesia. Notably, Evergreen Club toured with the World music ensemble "Heartbeat" (John Wyre of Nexus) from 1998-2000.
