"In the Spring of 2013, after a decade hiatus from their respective crafts followed by two unsuccessful music projects, Scott Thomas (drums) and Jimmy Dowell (bass guitar) embarked on a weekend trip with friends to Reno, Nevada. They needed some time to clear their heads, have some fun, and make some decisions about the next step in their musical journey. They both longed for something completely different. They wanted to stand out in the Silicon Valley music scene. As they wound through the Sierras, Jimmy introduced Scott to a sound he’d never heard. The music playing from the humble car stereo was ambient, edgy, beautiful, and completely vocal-free. It made sense, it felt right, and well before they arrived in Reno, Scott and Jimmy knew they were meant to make post-rock instrumental music. The big hurdle was to find the right guitarist; a seasoned musician with the right sound, and more importantly, a shared vision and passion. After several failed tryouts, a frustrated Jimmy and Scott began to think their vision was so specific they might never find a good fit. But in early June, 2013, Scott Rufsvold entered their rehearsal space, an auto body shop in South San Jose, and a band was born.
