BIOGRAPHY EVA AUAD - updated January 2012 Eva Auad (Eva Maria Awad, b. 1982) is an assertive soulful singer from The Netherlands. Her music is versatile, transcending strict pop categories, but her melodic and harmonic beauty give her a cross-genre appeal. Drawing on traditions, she looks forward. Eva knew by age 12 that music was her destiny, and as a pre-teen began a journey to express the rhapsody swirling in her head. She performed solo, in bands, and as half of a duo; sang covers and originals; landed festival bookings and radio gigs, and of course traveled the small club circuit. She was paying dues like any young musician, but still uncertain of her own artistic identity. Auad developed an adventurous style of composition, but found she didn't fit neatly into music industry templates. In 2010, Eva entered the 'Voice of Holland' competition. The jury was stunned at her apparently sudden emergence and artistic maturity: Jurist Roel van Velzen told her, 'Are you even aware of your talent?' Although she did not reach the finals, record companies took notice of this extraordinary audition and she was pursued by several labels. In 2011, Eva decided to sign with Basta Music, for whom she recorded her debut album later that year. She was teamed with producers JB Meijers (Solomon Burke, Go Back to the Zoo), Ken Stringfellow (R.E.M., The Posies) and Joost Kroon (Kane, New Cool Collective).
