Esque were a four-piece Indie Rock outfit from Ballincollig, (Co. Cork) Ireland, active between 1997 and 2001. The original line-up consisted of Barry John Maher on guitar and vocals, Tomás O'Dwyer on guitar, Jeremy Coleman on bass, and Ivan Touhey on drums. The group were primarily active in Cork City and around, playing bars in the city such as The Phoenix and The Lobby. In 1997, they recorded a 6 song demo in Connolly's of Leap, which they released independently. Shortly afterward, O'Dwyer left the band, and was replaced by [[bandmember]JJ Buckley (of Hushmoney). Esque continued to play sporadically, and gathered only a small following in Cork, as university and travel threatened the group's cohesion. In 2001, they recorded the six-song EP Songs About Something, though drums were played by Aidan Manning (of Judgement), though the band were effectively retired at this point.
