Espliego was formed by two of the best known singer-songwriters ffrom the Castille-LaMancha region of Spain ( the land of Don Quixote), Pedro Chaparro (Valdepeñas, Ciudad Real) and José Ignacio Cordero (Talavera de la Reina, Toledo) Throughout the years the band grew and added new musicians, featuring three vocalists, two male and one female. What characterizes the group is its interest in the music and poetry of the Cervantes era. The group combines Early Music with Manchego folk and folk-rock. The instruments used range from traditional Spanish instruments such as guitar, vihuela (an ancestor of the guitar) and flutes, to electric guitar, to instruments from around the globe, such as Irish uilleann pipes, Greek bouzouki, bodhran (an Irish frame drum), and the djembe (a West African drum). The singers use both Spanish and Latin, accompanied by musicians, ranging from folk rockers to string ensembles. The lyrics make references to elaborate love stories, the wanderings of trovadores and juglares (minstrels), traveling rogues and other folk or medieval tales. offical website, www.espliego.es/english/ User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
