Artist
Baron was a major influence in developing the role of the lute and the theorbo in late Baroque music, and a composer of significant compositions for both instruments. Ernst Baron was born the son of Michael Baron, who was an artisan who made gold lace. But Ernst Baron followed another direction and in 1710, while a student at the Elisabeth Gymnasium in Breslau, he began to study the lute with Kohott. Instead of immediately proceeding into the musical field, he went to Leipzig in 1715 to undertake the study of law and philosophy at the university.
