ER.J.ORCHESTRA was established in 1989 in Kiev, Ukraine. The present lineup predominantly performs acoustic music based on traditional Slavic melodies, but also influenced by Euro-American and Asian music. They do not simply quote traditional music, but it forms the musical source of their journey towards pure authenticity. Their original pieces fuse ethnic, jazz and academic music. The pieces are also characterized by frequent improvisational solos which replace each other, progressing into peculiar emotional colours and shades of meaning. Besides the overarching musical idea, each piece contains an idea of each separate instrument which "plays itself". Most of the musical critics are inclined to characterize the general style and aesthetic orientation of ER.J.ORCHESTRA as world music.
