Ensemble Galatia started its journey with gathering the medieval pieces in order to form a repertoire in Ankara, Turkey. The group is the first and only band performing medieval music in Turkey. It has been active since 2004, regularly takes stage at a local pub and has just released its demo album, "Lady & The Unicorn." The instruments performed are all made by group members with contributions of a gifted luthier, Erkan KETENCİ, trying to reconstruct them ,referring to medieval manuscripts. They include lute, vielle, rebec, psaltery, citole and setar as strings, recorders, transverse flutes, whistles and ney as wind and as percussions; frame drums, tambourines, darbuka, djembes, triangle and cymbals. The repertoire is mainly based on different kinds and forms of secular music performed between 10th and 16th centuries throughout Europe, including Troubadour, Trouvere & Minnesanger songs, Spanish Cantigas, Laudas , Andulisian songs, Sephardic songs and dance music. The lyrics are in Latin, old French, middle German , old English , Spanish and some of them, Arabic and Judeo Spanish.
