Artist
A native of South Africa, Emlyn Ellis Addison studied music theory and composition at Arizona State University and went on to develop his application of computer music methods at the California Institute of the Arts in 1996. His music is largely centered on quartal harmonic structures, voiced over compound or multi-meters within symmetrical or quasi-symmetrical forms, while applying characteristically "neo-retro" audio processing and sound treatments (new sounds made old, old sounds made new). Addison's instrumentation methodology favors a homogenous sound: "Blueprint Primitives" from Obsolete Advancements concentrates on double reeds and stringed instruments, including harmonium, harmonica, accordion, harpsichord, piano and strings, and electronic waveforms that complement these. His music hovers between ambient, downtempo and IDM; his influences range from William Orbit, Christ. and Boards of Canada to Radiohead and Philip Glass. Addison lives in Providence, Rhode Island. www.emlynellisaddison.com User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
