Ember After burns hard and heavy through a dark mechanized landscape. Ember After throws its light upon hypocrisy and isolation using thoughtful words served up with heavy beats, grinding guitars, soaring male and female vocals, and menacing electro-mechanical atmospherics. Comprised of the embers from various alternative, progressive, metal, goth, industrial, and experimental bands, the songs are the brainchild of singer/songwriter/instrumentalist Orren Merton. However, the accomplishments of the many other Ember Members range from underground infamy and live notoriety throughout the American West in bands such as Darkling Thrush and Aaron English, to the international success of UK’s Republica and Middle Eastern band Monica Sex. From their base in Southern California, Ember After shines upon the doubt, deceit, and isolation that passes for “modern life.” With Grasping at Straws, Ember After firmly stakes out its dark, heavy, electro-drenched territory.
