Artist
Like Kasper Hauser, the legendary 19th century wild boy raised in solitude, Emanuel Dunn, from the deep south, grew up under mysterious circumstances. All that is known is that he was born "About 15 miles outta Liberty Mississippi." The folklorist Harry Oster, of Louisiana State University, said of him, "Here is the natural. He doesn't know where he's from, no one does. He doesn't know his childhood, father, mother. This white couple took him in and adopted him. That's all he knows. But he does know the music, and the mystery is where and how he learned these songs, and understood them, and came to talk as he does." This info was gleaned from the Studs Terkel book "And They All Sang" featuring interviews with musicians from all genres. Unfortunately, he doesn't mention anything he recorded. He does however, talk about his mistreatment by his white parents and how his white mother helped him run away from his father's abuses. He also talks about he came to understand music in a purely organic way. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
