“Now here’s an album! Art punk, no wave, noise, indie rock and hardcore mash together to create an unself-conscious mix of Dischord Records, Blood Brothers, Antioch Arrow, Unwound… “Any Land But This” is like an archivists journal of basement shows and homegrown revolution. This outfit seems to hold an innate understanding of the immense importance of localized action to produce legitimate, iconoclastic punk rock. Elphaba would have been your favorite local band when you were in high school - and you would have treated them like the most important group on the planet (remember?). I envy the Seattle high school kids who now have that framework through which to enjoy and experience this inspiring band. Hopefully they’re playing shows for the kids every weekend. This is my favorite record that I reviewed this issue, and I urge everyone to get their hands on a copy. -Status Magazine User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
