Artist
Elia was born March 22, 1953 and Elizabeth, May 29, 1954, both in Bogotá, the eldest of three sisters and a brother of Spanish parents. Their family moved to Barranquilla when they were little, and at the age of 5 and 6 they began guitar lessons. They were granddaughters of Spanish tenor Miguel Fleta, whose daughters Elia y Paloma Fleta also formed a duo, which achieved fame in the fifties, and their mother's parents sang and their grandmother played the piano. As teenagers they moved to Lima, Perú, and in 1971 recorded a single in Spain, where their father had moved briefly, arranged by Juan Carlos Calderón. Back to Colombia, they recorded in the early seventies two LPs for Codiscos label, whose songs "Hay que vivir la vida", "Mis 32 dientes" and "Alegría" became hits. They didn't make a career in pop music, and their activity lasted for only three years. Elia belongs to the congregation of Teresianas de Poveda, traveling and living in many places, while Elizabeth was married.
