Eli was born in a small mountain town near the western border of Evernorth County. He built himself a guitar out of wood from the cherry trees in his parents' orchard and whiled away many an afternoon blithely playing ska songs in the town square. When he walked past, the townspeople would say, "There goes Eli. He's a free spirit." One summer a mysterious disease swept through Evernorth County, leaving many too weak to tend to their fields. The citizens of Evernorth County gathered in the grange hall late one night and decided that someone must be sent over the mountains to the nearest city to seek help. Marjorie had a bold idea, and when the townspeople put it to a vote, it passed unanimously. Evernorth County would send Eli on this all-important mission. The journey would not be easy. Eli would need to cross the fearsome Mount Dangerous. The Evernorth County Quilting Society instructed him to seek the help of the lesbians who live along the Calhoun Ridge, for they were rumored to possess supernatural abilities the likes of which straight people could only imagine. However, it would be a long trek before Eli would reach the dwelling place of the lesbians. Eli packed up his guitar and a few boxes of cereal and began his journey.
