El Chino, better known as DJ/producer Ken Fan, joins the I’m A House Gangster camp bringing a fusion of organic sounds to the label, all underpinned by a classic jacking Chicago ethos. Born in China and brought up in the UK, it was only after a five year spell in Ibiza for the renowned DJ and producer that the ‘El Chino’ name was truly born, when DJ Sneak gave it to him as a nickname. From his formative years where he became an integral part of the UK scene through residencies for Birmingham based clubs Miss Moneypennys and Chuff Chuff, Ken Fan has gone on to tour the world and share the booth with the world’s A-list DJs. Now, influenced by DJ Sneak and the House Gangster which he describes as “bumping, jacking, with large subby bass lines with some hip hop and latin influences”, El Chino is finally answering the problems he sees with the scene, as he explained when he recorded a mix for the Gangstercast series back in June, “I took a step back from DJing and producing for a short while to look at the scene from a different perspective, as it was soul destroying due to the fact that the industry is now unfortunately over saturated with fake ass talentless people who get paid a hell of a lot of money, who play shit music badly on laptops and too many of which cannot produce their own beats.” User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
