Artist
It is difficult finding a way to define Matias Mendez, better known as The Chavez. He evades the labels and tags. Today, his music is heard on El Puntero (Wednesday night for broadcast TV), acts almost every weekend with his solo project and the industry recognized him as the producer on the rise after his participation in the last disc Gustavo Cordera (who will produce the new album), No Te Va Gustar and Cielo Razzo. But he didn't come into mainstream music by chance. Access to prime time television, the recognition of his work and his performance after his appearances in countless projects, are held in the painstaking task developed over more than a decade in the west of Buenos Aires. With curiosity as a driver, his searching sound is characterized by cutting-edge beats and steering shock surprise. As a teenager he left Árbol (of which he was a founding member and main songwriter) after an altercation with Gustavo Santaolalla in the middle of recording the first album. Subsequently he formed Nuca, one of the most famous groups in Argentina under a proposal hardcore-dub-rock, that is now on standby. As a soloist, he published Morón City Groove last year, a dancey, colorful, melancholic and suburban collection, just 32 minutes that transpires Latin flavors in each chord. With risk and imagination, they assembled the cumbia sounds with electronic beats, fused with littoral accordions, dub loops and interlaces with seductive speeches.
