Artist
Ekofield is a collaborative music approach between Jose Rodriguez, a.k.a Mr. Hamilton/ Sinkfield and Andrés Ortiz-Ferrari, a.k.a. Discuss/ eko farm. Both Andres and Joe emerged from their home base San Juan, Puerto Rico, where they had already worked together on multiple music projects throughout the mid 90’s, to then reunite in Pittsburgh, PA. Andrés moved to Pitt in 2001, Joe followed in 2008, here ekofield was born. As a sense of a place and time where echoes are cultivated and gathered, ekofield's sound can be described as a darkened, head boppin soulful soundtrack to life in the steel city. With remnants of tropical memories and hints of an obsession with the mechanics of an urban surrounding, an adoption of multiple styles, techniques, and processes give ekofield a unique and weathered vibe. This translates to their music in a way which narrates the shift between sandy beaches and tropical weather to snow dunes and city grids. Ekofield incorporates a timelessness in their music, so it can be enjoyed, critiqued, and/ or disliked by any and all...as well as sticking to an abstract sense. So in a way, what is heard can remain in an undefined realm, where only the listener can actually give it meaning.
