Eivind Gullberg Jensen is Chief Conductor of the NDR Radiophilharmonie. Gullberg Jensen has previously conducted the Berliner Philharmoniker (with Vadim Repin), Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra at Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also conducted the world premiere of Bent Sørensen's Sounds Like You with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the Norwegian premiere with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. Also a prolific opera conductor, this season includes productions of Rusalka at the Opernhaus Zürich and Fidelio with the Bayerische Staatsoper, marking his debut with the company. In September 2009 he made his debut with Den Norske Opera conducting Rusalka and returned in December 2010 for Eugene Onegin and in January 2012 to conduct Stefan Herrheim's production of La bohème. Past operatic engagements have included his debut for English National Opera with Janácek's Jenufa, a double-bill of Il Tabarro and Djamileh for Opera de Lyon (directed by David Pountney and Christopher Alden), Il Corsaro in Zurich and Tosca with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Fidelio with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra as part of the Festspiele Baden-Baden. After studying violin and musical theory in Trondheim, Eivind Gullberg Jensen went on to study conducting with the legendary Professor Jorma Panula in Stockholm, and in Vienna with Leopold Hager.
