Artist
Echo Wants Her Voice Back is a Cypriot-born, London based singer-songwriter, and actress, often described as “folk noir” with blues, rock and pop influences. Her background in literature and short story writing blended her songwriting skills with her love for poetry and prose, bringing about the perfect union of her two passions. Her distinctive voice, notable stage presence and compelling lyrics have been praised by music publications, with Songwriting Magazine comparing her to the likes of Kate Bush and Lorde. In 2015, she self released her first EP and amongst other festivals, performed at the 2016 SXSW. Fast forward to today, she has released a series of singles and music videos on her YouTube channel. Her song “Mermaids” co-written with Paris based hip hop artist, The Spectre, was picked up by BBC Introducing as part of its radio showcase in 2020. She is currently working towards the release of her second EP. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
# Why This Artist Deserves Your Attention This project merits close listening for how deliberately it fuses literary sensibility with sonic exploration. The artist's background in prose and poetry fundamentally shapes her songwriting—each lyric carries narrative weight, operating simultaneously as confession and character study. Her voice functions as an instrument itself, neither conventionally polished nor raw, but instead textured and deliberate. What distinguishes her work within the folk-influenced sphere is the absence of sentimentality; there's an intellectual rigor underlying the emotional content. The folk noir framework allows her to explore darker psychological terrain while maintaining melodic sophistication. Rather than following established genre conventions, she treats words and music as equally important storytelling tools
