1 -(born August 24, 1886 Gwinnett County, Georgia - died May 31, 1965) an old time fiddler who was very much influenced by the music of Gid Tanner and The Skillet Lickers. Robert Earl Johnson learned to play the fiddle from an early age. When he was young, he used to practice together with his siblings, Albert and Ester. In 1923, he joined Fiddlin' John Carson's Virginia Reelers and within two years, he made his first recordings on Paramount Records. As the leader of the Dixie Entertainers, he recorded with guitarist Byrd Moore and banjoist Emmett Bankston. When Byrd Moore left, Johnson added guitarist Lee "Red" Henderson and formed the Clodhoppers. The new band became successful recording for Okeh Records in 1927. He continued to make recordings with the two bands simultaneously.
