Ear of the Rat

EAR OF THE RAT is an on-going open source improvised sound recording project. Ear of the Rat was first formed January 2, 2008 as a one-off improvised performance. Jeffrey Rossetto was scheduled to play a performance at the St. Catharines' Ontario nightclub, L3 and his previous band Skitzotech had backed out. He called upon members of the music collective Billy's Masonic Tavern, Chandra Murray and Jacob Vrieswyk, and recruited his drummer friend Greg Gunn for percussion duties. The name came from a play on the Chinese Year of the Rat (2008). Presently, the music collective meets every Friday to record a 2 hour improvisation session that is initially broadcast live at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/earoftherat and is then mixed down and released under a Creative Commons 2.5(Canada) Attribution license. As of November 2013 there were over 174 of these releases available for free download.
