Dysfunctional Youth originated from Union City, NJ around the late 80s. They've had songs on a few compilations such as Pogo Attack which included the tracks Losing My Mind and Today's Youth which became sort of their anthem. They've played mostly in the NorthEast in places including CBGBs, ABCno Rios, CIH, Pipeline, tons of basement & squat house shows and a few out of state shows. The band was originally called 2 Minute Hate and the members were the actual current Dysfunctional Youth lineup of Otto-vocals, Tom-bass, Julio-guitar and Matt Brown-Drums. 2 Minute Hate wrote the songs Losing My Mind, Shattered, Drunk Punks, Glueheads among several others. After about 2 years, the band died out even though everyone remained friends and shortly reassembled with Otto-vocals, Tom-bass, Kenny-guitar and Mott Thomas-drums and started the name Dysfunctional Youth. After playing several shows Matt left drums & Julio filled in. There was a short period where Otto was replaced by Manny on vocals & continued playing out. After splitting up for several years, DY got back together around the summer of 2000 and have written lots of new songs and play occasional local shows.
