Hailing from the South Wales Valley, the songs of DUNKIE germinate into a hybrid of Alt-Indie with sublime flourishes of Electronica, Folk-rock, Indie pop and Shoegaze. Forming the core of this unique project is Welsh Singer/Songwriter ANTHONY PRICE, Songwriter/Producer WAYNE BASSETT & Figurative Artist MICHAEL GUSTAVIUS PAYNE. However with an ever-revolving door of musicians, previously including Singer/Songwriter CAT SOUTHALL and Singer/Songwriter ROB LEAR, the project is best described as 40+ musicians becoming purely 'symbiotic'. Their melodies and hooks weave effortlessly between a kaleidoscopic melting pot of EELS, Radiohead, Massive Attack, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Corgan, Teenage Fanclub, Carole King, Badly Drawn Boy, Peter Gabriel, Death Cab for Cutie, Neil Young, R.E.M., The Beach Boys and more. Their Welsh Music Prize 2020 Longlisted debut album, ‘WORKING TO DESIGN’, has become both a personal and professional triumph, showcasing a wonderfully complex and textured journey that delves deep into the human condition. A testament to the self-funded album's textured genius and enduring quality, the Ltd Edition CD Box Set has been inducted into the National Library of Wales and the National British Library Sound Archive, London, and in 2022 was pressed on Double Vinyl, whilst still remaining unsigned.
