Artist
Duchess of York thrives in Richmond, Virginia and consists of Michael York (vocals, lead guitar) Constantine Giavos (Drumkit) Jacob Shank (guitar) and Austin York (bass, backing vocals). Michael and Constantine were the founders of The Rising Sons, along with them was former bassist Daniel Macphee and former rhythm guitarist Beck York, Michael's cousin. After Macphee left, the sons tried another bassist out, and then went to Michaels older brother Austin. They changed their name to Duchess of York in late 2006 (playing off the family name). They recorded their debut album in Beehive Studios, which Constantine owns and operates. The songs are written by Michael, and most are produced and arranged by Constantine. In the winter of 07/08 Jacob Shank replaced Beck in the second guitar position. Jacob and Mike now split the solos in live shows and recordings. They are critically acclaimed throughout the City of Richmond. "Waiting on the Weather" (a song on their debut album) was chosen as one of the top 8 songs of the week by the Richmond Times-Dispatch along side "Le Disko" by Shiny Toy Guns, "Lazy Eye" by Silversun Pickups, "Sundress" Ben Kweller, "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen, and several others.
