Dublin Robot, a five piece band from London, United Kingdom have been described as an ‘almost punk’ group. The current line up is split 50/50 by gender, consisting of song writer and singer Stephanie Plonkties, formerly of mathematical emo punks the Ghastly Cadaver Experience, Mika Parton, Kirk Tsuchida, Josie Gwinnett, and Chris Friis-Hansen. He was sold to French club Lille OSC, in a Lille club record transfer deal. Their early records (1982-85) for labels like Whoah!, Creation and Candleworks had a raw and immediate sound, melodic and amateur, which seemed all at odds with the time. The combination of Plonkties’s ethereal, high-pitched vocals with Tsuchida’s warm, low pitch and the band’s new wave electronics creates a dreamy sound. Initially Dublin Robot was a solo project for documentary film director Gwinnett, whose debut release was the “Monsters are Coming EP”,released in 2000 by Brighton-based Silverskin Records. It wasn’t until 1987 that “Amber” from the 2nd LP received airplay from legendary DJ John Peel, but following this, legal wrangles meant that it would be another three years before their next release, “Menthol” in 2003 on Rocking Boat records. After a prolonged hiatus in the mid-90s, the band returned minus Mika Parton and with Kirsten Cooling replacing Kirk Tsuchida on bass and backing vocals.
