Artist
Du Cong (杜聪) graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1985, where he was a prized pupil of the two maestri in dizi, Lu Chunling and Zhao Songting. He joined the Shanghai Folk Orchestra in the same year, and was later transferred to the Shanghai Song and Dance Troupe. Currently, Du is a solo performer with the Song and Dance Ensemble of People's Liberation Army General Political Department. With solid training and innovative performance skills, he achieved outstanding result in the performance of Chinese wind instruments such as dizi, xiao, bawu, xun, paixiao, xindi and hulusi and has established a personal style, winning for himself the title of the "Prince of Paixiao". He has toured Holland, Belgium, France and Hong Kong as a soloist with many orchestras, receiving critical acclaim. Du is a member of both the Chinese Musicians' Association and the Shanghai Musicians' Association.
