Artist
Drugs Made Me Smarter (Carlos Gutiérrez Vidal) is a minimal techno music project based on Mexicali, Mexico. According to Eduardo Padilla, DMMS "sets out to casually subvert the mind’s eye by way of the ear", and describes its music as "a subtle and elegant cast of experimental techno" Author and conceptual artist, Carlos Gutiérrez Vidal published his first book in 1993, but since 1991 had started to experiment with visual poetry and sound poetry as well. In 2002 he decided to take the next step and start experimenting with computer music, as an intempt to retreat from the everyday noise. Drugs Made Me Smarter is some kind of sound utopia, named after CGV's extreme love for smart drugs and nootropics. Drugs Made Me Smarter is the best thing since sliced brain. Influences: Nootropil, smart drugs, cream coloured ponnies and blue satin sashes, Brian Eno, Pierre Cardin, Moët & Chandon, LSD, Georges Perec, Haroldo de Campos, Cabaret Voltaire, Fluxus, Throbbing Gristle, Philip Glass, The Art of Noise. Sounds like: audiossey, Frankie Patella, LSF, deecodee, ashore, Jabberjaw, Ezekiel Honig, Tomas Jirku, juno6, Felix Building.
