Little is often expected from a town such as Dixon, IL; a small city once driven by the now collapsed manufacturing industry. With stretches of shut down factories and outdated neighborhoods it would be easy to miss if it weren’t for one voice booming out of every club in town. That voice is 16 year old Drew Dawson. Though still young, Drew has been singing and performing for as long as she can recall. “I remember dancing in circles singing Selena’s Bidi Bidi Bom Bom at the top of my lungs,” said the young vocalist about her childhood. “When I was 9 years old I performed I’ll Be There by the Jackson Five. I got a standing ovation and there were a few men and women that cried. That was it. That was the moment I thought, I want to do this forever.” As she focused more on her singing she was unable to shake the feeling that something was missing. “I couldn’t listen to Billy Joel or Elton John without feeling like I was missing out on the piano. If there was a piano around, I wanted to touch it. If piano was in a song ever so slightly, I heard it. Something about it just made sense. We match like a Jedi and a light saber!” In the summer of 2010, Drew stepped out and entered the local Quad City Idol competition. She took first place and won the chance to audition in front of the producers of American Idol. “I used to have some doubts about my musical abilities.
