Draumhvörf the band was formed in the summer of 2008 from the ashes of the band Proxima. The original lineup consisted of guitarists Ástvaldur Axel, Sindri Ben and the drummer Emil. Soon after beginning his education at the FÍH music school, Emil met Þorvaldur in class who joined the band as keyboard player and later took up singing as well. Together the band wrote a few songs and competed in the Icelandic Battle of the Bands (Músíktilraunir) although lacking a bass player. Lately they have been playing at various small concerts in downtown Reykjavík, most of them being organized by themselves. In early summer of 2009, the band got the opportunity to record a couple of songs for free at the prestigious Studio Sýrland in Reykjavík. They recorded the songs "Peaceful" and "Sleepless Dream", and you can listen to them at their myspace page. In the fall of 2009, Valgeir Daði joined the band as a bass player. Draumhvörf's music consists of a highly eclectic blend of many different genres such as latin, post-rock, metal, jazz, funk and psychadelic, all mixed into a musical soup of progressive rock. This may be the result of their different musical backgrounds and personal interests. As a band Draumhvörf is a collaborative unit, writing their songs together and collaborating on their music and lyrics.
