For the past fifteen years, music lovers around the world have agreed with the Chicago Sun Times, who several years ago stated “there is only one Doug Montgomery.” Fans of Montgomery’s have known this for a very long time. His unforgettable live performances and his nine versatile recordings reveal the vast talent of this world-class musician, and his repeat engagements at some of the country’s premier private and corporate events proves the appeal is surely the music but also the man himself. A native Chicagoan, Montgomery began attending Northwestern University’s pre-college music prepatory program when he was only 15. In fifth grade he walked through the doors of his first music class and entered a whole new world. Recalling, the experience, Doug claims he can still smell the ink on the mimeograph sheet containing the song the teacher passed out that day. “When she struck the first few chords on the piano,” he explains. “I became mesmerized. From that point on I couldn’t wait to go to music class. In less than a month I was taking lessons. At first, all I wanted to learn was popular music, but my teacher encouraged me to learn a couple of classical pieces so I would understand music’s foundation. I ended up loving Bach and Mozart and pop music suddenly took a back seat.” His passion for classical music prompted Montgomery to pursue his Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern and then his Master’s degree from the famed Juilliard School in New York City.
