Artist
Carrying a wide-ranging musical background from garage-band guitar player to classically-trained composer, Doug Kolmar moved to Maine from the New York City area in 2002 and was thrilled to find a burgeoning music scene. Once content to focus on home recording, His 2001 album The Whole Story is Long and Complicated (recorded under the band name Dogs Gone Fishing) gained a following on MP3.com alt-pop charts and lead to performances of DGF as an acoustic duo around New York and Long Island. After landing in Portland, he found a foothold as a solo performer through showcases with the Maine Songwriters Assoc. and Just Plain Folks. In 2005 he released the 6-song EP Homebody/Somebody; the full-length CD, As If I Was Almost Here was released in July 2006. Kolmar was a finalist in the 2005 New England Songwriting contest at the Ossipee Valley Bluegrass Festival, and received an honorable mention in the 2006 International Peacedriven Song Awards. His song "Dream Darkly" is currently included on the Living With War Today page on Neil Young's web site. "It takes a little close listening to appreciate what Kolmar has done here, but it is well worth the extra effort." -- Indie-Music.com User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
