Doug Aldrich (born February 19, 1964 in Raleigh, North Carolina), is a Los Angeles-based guitar player, since 2002 a member of the bluesy hard rock band Whitesnake. He plays Gibson Les Pauls and Fender Stratocasters through hot-rodded Marshall JMPs and Vintage Modern amps. Doug was first introduced to the guitar at age 11 when his sister introduced him to the playing of Jeff Beck. Aldrich joined L.A. glam band Lion in 1985-- recording two albums and one EP before the band broke up in 1989. He was briefly a member of Hurricane-- replacing founding guitarist Robert Sarzo in 1989. He participated in the writing and recording of Hurricane's 'Slave to the Thrill' (1990) before leaving the band. He joined Bad Moon Rising with Kal Swan. In November 1998 BMR had officially broken up and in 1999 Aldrich had created a new act Burning Rain fronted by ex-Medicine Wheel vocalist Keith St John. He founded the band with Keith St. John in 1998. When Craig Goldy left Dio in 2002, he was replaced with Doug Aldrich. Aldrich did not contribute much to Dio's ninth work, Killing the Dragon, which was written primarily by Dio and Jimmy Bain. Aldrich would stay in the band until April of the following year, when he, like Vivian Campbell before him, joined Whitesnake. In May 2014, Doug Aldrich announced his departure from Whitesnake and was replaced by Night Ranger guitarist Joel Hoekstra.
