Coming from the island of San Nicholau, Djurumani (= Carlos Germano) was always a welcome presence at the musical gatherings on the islands of Sal. His powerful, well-toned voice sang songs with deep emotion and, while he now lives in Portugal (as do many Cape Verdeans), he still retains a passion for, and loyalty to, his home country.
