Divinus Baal & Runa was a exoterica German duo and their music is difficult to describe, from a ambient worm relaxing atmosphere, slowly into a cold & warning kaos noise, pulsating delirious synths and moaning, ominous dark drones abound while tribal percussion is interspersed throughout, bringing an ancient and mystical quality to the material. But, there is something just beneath the surface here, defying any archetype, challenging the listener to define the music just as a philosopher is challenged to define his reality or — perhaps more appropriately — an alchemist is challenged to transform lead into gold. It is as though Divinus Baal has captured the sounds of some secret ritual, far from the prying eyes of the natural world, telepathically guided by Runa’s existential texts.
