Artist
Formed in Riverside, California, USA, in 1967, the Dirty Blues Band evolved out of several groups active in the region. The Dirty Blues Band offered a mixture of classic songs from Albert King, Sonny Boy Williamson and Willie Dixon, sprinkled with stylised originals in first two albums, both released in 1968. Its hard to believe that Rod Piazza was barely 19 when he recorded the first LP of this 2 album collection. His trade mark fat toned harmonica sound and technique were surprisingly already well developed. Despite being based on the West Coast, the Dirty Blues Band deliver tough Chicago style blues, having been heavily influenced by the Paul Butterfield band. On album 1 we also get the bonus of Glenn Ross Campbell who had been rescued by Piazza from the ruins of the cult band the Misunderstood. Campbell, who plays excellent lap steel guitar,of course found some success in Juicy Lucy but never fulfilled his great potential. Dirty Blues Band: *Rod Piazza (vocals, harp) *Jimmy Forrest (tenor saxophone) *Willie Green (baritone saxophone) *Freddie Hill (trumpet) *Pat Maloney (piano, organ) *Gregg Anderson (bass) *Dave Miter (drums) The Dirty Blues Band broke up some time in 1968.
