Dirk Luijmes studied organ, harpsichord and church music at the School of Arts in Arnhem with dr. Hans van Nieuwkoop, Bert Matter and Chris Farr. He also studied musicology at the University of Utrecht. In 1992 he was prize winner at the Dutch National Organ Improvisation Competition and a year later at the European Organ Improvisation Competition. In addition to being an accompanist in various ensembles he performs as a soloist and made various recordings for tv, broadcast and cd. He played in the tour of Orchestre des Champs Elysées (under Philippe Herreweghe), with The Netherlands Chamber Choir the RIAS Kammerchor and the NDR Chor, during Warsaw Autumn (Poland) and in The International Reed Organ Convention 2001 (England). He also worked with The Skampa Quartet, Sinfonietta Amsterdam, Oxalys, the Radio Chamber Orchestra and the piano duo Leo van Doeselaar and Wyneke Jordans. As a musicologist he works free lance at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and contributes articles for various magazines. He is also artistic director of the Stichting Longen & Tongen and organist from the Great Church in Elst. After he obtained a beautiful French harmonium from Victor Mustel, he devoted himself to this forgotten instrument.
