Dino Valente (sometimes Dino Valenti) (born Chester William Powers, Jr., aka Chet Powers, on 7 October 1937; died 16 November 1994) was an American singer-songwriter and one of the lead singers of the rock group Quicksilver Messenger Service. As a songwriter, he was known as Jesse Oris Farrow. He is best known for writing the quintessential 1960s love-and-peace anthem "Get Together", and for writing and singing on Quicksilver Messenger Service's two best-known songs, "Fresh Air" and "What About Me". He also popularized and controversially claimed the copyright of Billy Roberts's song "Hey Joe" (made famous by The Jimi Hendrix Experience). Famous as the writer of two rock anthems: "Hey Joe" and "Get Together", he actually wrote only the latter, as the first was an old traditional song he only had the idea to bring to the 60's rock environment (later being released by The Leaves, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and many others). He wrote "Get Together" under his original name, Chet Powers, but sold the rights to help in raising some money while in prison. After beginning his career as a NYC Greenwich Village folk singer in the early 1960s, Valenti was a founding member of Quicksilver Messenger Service - though not getting to record or play live many times in the band because of his imprisonment shortly after the founding.
