Artist
Dimitris Kamarotos was born in Athens , Greece . Studied Music, Economics and Informatics in Greece and continued studying Music in Paris , with Composition and Clarinet (univ. Paris I and VIII and also Ecole Normale). Studied music analysis and composition with Daniel Charles, Emile Damais, Iannis Xenakis, with Horacio Vaggionne and Marc Battier, computer Music, Maurice Jarre music for films. He continued his post Grad. studying in the IRCAM on use of artificial intelligence as a compositional tool. In Greece he created and directed contemporary and experimental Music Ensembles: Athenaeum Music Ensemble (1988-92), “Pros” (1985-91), “Intermediate Space” (1990-93), “FF&2” (1998-00), “Electric Breath” (2001-02), “Stationary Machinery” (2005). His research activities include the direction of the research project “HXE – a sonic map of Greece” (CCMR and NTUA), concept and creation of exploratory tools for music education in Greek elementary Schools, responsible for the underwater capture of mammal sounds in the marine park of Northern Sporades, research manager of the Contemporary Music Research Centre (1985-94). Collaborated with prof. Brad Garton and T. Rikakis ( Columbia Un.) for the creation of the computer music lab of the CCMR in Athens and the program of Psychoacoustics in Aristotle Univ. With prof. Perry Cook ( Princeton Un.) in the creation of the Greek instrument for diction and singing (IGDIS) and with pr. S. Theodoridis and A. Pikrarkis ( Athens Un.) on the creat
