There were so many lettered musician in his family as Late Pt. Bachou Mishra, his son Late Pt. Banshi Maharaj and Late Pt. Navaratan Mishra. They all were top most Sarangi player and Vocalist too. His grand father Late Pt. Doujee Mishra was a great vocalist of Banaras Gharana. Shri Dhananjay Mishra began grooming under the able guidance of his father “Pt. Ishwar Lal Mishra” who has been awarded “Sangeet Natak Academy”, Lucknow (UP). Pt. Ishwar Lal Mishra is the preternatural Tabla player who accompanied with top most artist of India like Pt. Ravi Shanker, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasiya, Late Pt. Omkar Nath Thakur, Late Pt. Nikhil Banerjee, Late Ustad Bismillah Khan,thumari samrat Late Pt. Mahadev prasad mishra, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, etc. After his father Dhananjay learned tabla under the able guidance of rtd. Professer of (B.H.U.)pt.chote lal mishra also.
