Derek McTavish is an artist from the across United States, having lived in Seattle, Arizona, Connecticut, and Florida. His influences are a bit drastically unusual; he started by writing electronic, mostly percussive music, then transitioned into writing fully orchestral film scores for a number of indie and student films. After a number of years writing purely instrumental music, including some rather abstract solo piano pieces, in the summer of 2008 he recorded his first contemporary, alternative-ish song -also his first with vocals. Over the next year, in addition to completing more film scores, he continued to explore this new genre. As of now, he's working on his first EP, Vital Silence.
