Derek Hough was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and moved to London in 1998 with sister Julianne Hough in order to pursue their dancing talent with Corky and Shirley Ballas, parents of Derek's future band mate. Derek became a world champion in Latin American Dance and joined the cast of Dancing With the Stars in season 5. He has been a professonal dancer and choreographer on the show through season 10, and took home the trophy in season 7 with host and model Brooke Burke. Derek formed a band with fellow dancer and best friend, Mark Ballas, called Almost Amy while in London and they grew up together playing music. In 2008, the band was renamed to Ballas Hough Band and their first album was released under Hollywood Records in early 2009.
