Artist
Dennis was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1986. In high school, he was introduced to "slam poetry" through his English teacher, Henry Sampson, then vice president of the National Poetry Slam. He was soon competing in poetry slams throughout the Chicago area until he got a place on a team headed for the national slam in the summer of 2005. He competed in the group competitions for both the 2005 and 2006 slams. Throughout high school and afterwards, Dennis developed his skills with both the guitar and piano, and he began writing songs in his late teenaged years. Now, combining his poetry and music, Dennis has been touring the country for the past four years. In addition to performing countless music venues and schools across the nation, he has toured in 8 European countries. Attracting all sorts of audiences, Florine performs in the summers for the Illinois Shakespeare Festival in Bloomington, IL, as well as touring full time year round. He has shared the stage with bands like Fred Shafer and Oval Opus, and worked with Grammy winning engineer Rico Lumpikin (Outkast, Monica) and producer Nate Yaccino (Jessica Sonner, Brandon Grissom). His music has been featured on radio stations such as Bloomington’s 99.5 The Eagle, Colorado Spring’s 91.5 “The SOCC” and countless college radio stations across Chicago.
